Aircraftman 1st Class Robert Logan Wilson (995972) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was the son of William Ogilvie Wilson and Mary Wilson of Bangor, Co. Down.
Robert died on 28th June 1942 aged 23 years old. He was on board Vickers Wellington R1445 KJ-Y flying with RAF No. 11 Operational Training Unit. The plane took off from RAF Steeple Morden, Hertfordshire on a day time flight and lost power in one engine.
The crew attempted to circle and return to the airfield but stalled in a right turn. The Mark 1C bomber came down on top of a house at Ashwell, Hertfordshire to the south-west of the airfield.
Robert Logan Wilson’s grave is in Section 4R, Grave 147 of Bangor Cemetery, Bangor, Co. Down.
