Leading Aircraftman Robert Lowry (1502000) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He lived at 26 Connsbrook Drive, Belfast.
In 1943, Lowry was with RAF 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit. He died on 12th May 1943 aged 22 years old when a fire broke out at RAF Riccall, Yorkshire. Flames swept through D Flight’s dispersal hut killing 4 men outright. A 5th man died the following day as a result of injuries sustained in the fire.
Robert Lowry’s grave is in Section E1, Grave 11 of Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down.
