Robert Millar of Dunmurry, Co. Antrim was a cook on board SS Glendalough with the Merchant Navy at his time of death on 19th March 1943.

Cook Robert Millar served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. He was the son of George Millar and Jane Millar, and the husband of Annie Millar of Dunmurry, Co. Antrim.

He died on 19th March 1943 aged 44 years old on board SS Glendalough. The Belfast-based coal cargo vessel struck a mine en route from Shoreham-by-Sea. A total of 5 of the 6 person crew died when the ship foundered. After the remaining men made it safely to shore, explosives scuttled the wreck.

Robert Millar’s grave is in Section 116, Row F, Grave 10 of Scartho Road Cemetery, Grimsby, Lincolnshire. His name is on the Lisburn War Memorial, Lisburn, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
