Sergeant Samuel Morgan (539583) served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was the son of Thomas Morgan and Rebecca Morgan of 30 Milfort Avenue, Dunmurry, Co. Antrim.
He died on 31st July 1940 aged 21 years old. At the time, he served in R.A.F. 233 Squadron and had 3 years’ service in the Royal Air Force. Samuel was an Air Gunner on Lockheed Hudson N7224 when the Mark I Bomber failed to return from a sortie over Norway. Their mission took them to the harbour of Kristiansand, Norway. In ‘The Other Few: The Contribution Made by Bomber and Coastal Aircrew to the Battle of Britain’ by Larry Donelly, the author states:
It is believed that it fell victim to either Unteroffizier Otto Niemayer of 4./JG77 or Oberfeldwebel Georg Bergmann of 9./JG77, both flying Bf109s and claiming “Blenheims”.
