Lieutenant Tom Harrison Raven served on board HMS Sarawak on 31st March 1945 when he died in a tragic drowning accident on Belfast Lough.

Lieutenant Tom Harrison Raven (S/4667) served in the Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War Two. He was the son of Harrison Raven and Nina Constance Wynne Raven of Mona Vale, New South Wales, Australia.

The Australian seaman died on 31st March 1945 aged 28 years old while serving on HMS Sarawak. His body was found at Whiteabbey, Co. Antrim on the shore of Belfast Lough.

Four other crew members of HMS Sarawak died on the same day and are buried in Northern Ireland. They are Lieutenant Samuel Geoffrey Crimes, Telegraphist Arthur Newton Davey, Signalman Lyn Edgar Landon Relf, and Telegraphist John Albert White. The 5 men died in a tragic drowning accident in Belfast Lough.

Tom Harrison Raven’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section BS, Grave 131 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
