Civilian William Coyle was the son of a couple from Derry/Londonderry. He died at 6 Ingleston Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire as Luftwaffe bombs fell during the Blitz of 1941.

Civilian William Coyle died on 7th May 1941 aged 65 years old. He was the son of James Coyle and Catherine Docherty Coyle of 7 Windsor Terrace, Derry/Londonderry, and the husband of Marjorie Coyle.

His death occurred at 6 Ingleston Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire. That night, 7th May 1941, was the second night of the Greenock Blitz. Ingleston Street bore the brunt of Luftwaffe bombs with incendiary bombs causing a large fire at the distillery on the street. This acted as a beacon for following bombers.

William Coyle’s name is on the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour at St. George’s Chapel, Westminster Abbey, London. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records 31 deaths at 6 Ingleston Street on 7th May 1941.
