Born in Leitrim, Ireland, William Johnston Allingham enlisted in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve where he rose through the ranks to become a Squadron Leader.

Squadron Leader William Johnston Allingham (77332) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. Born on 9th February 1885, he was the son of James Allingham and Elizabeth Allingham (née Johnston) of Lisnabrack, Killasnet, Leitrim, Ireland.

Allingham’s father died on 29th August 1898 when William was 13 years old. At the age of 17 years old, he lost his mother Elizabeth on 28th May 1902.

William was the husband of Louise Isabella Annie Allingham of Middleton, Lancashire, England. He died on 27th October 1941 aged 56 years old.

William Johnston Allingham’s grave is in Section D1, Grave 80 of Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down. His headstone bears the inscription:
