Built in 1780, Erganagh House near Omagh, Co. Tyrone was a Rectory that played host to several units of troops from US Army 34th Infantry Division in 1942.

Erganagh House stands about 3 miles outside Omagh, Co. Tyrone not far from the Gortin Glen Forest. Dating back to 1780, restoration work has brought the house back to its former glory.

During the Second World War, the main house became a Headquarters for 34th Infantry Division of the US Army in 1942. On 31st January 1942, 34th Signal Company and a Military Police Platoon of 34th Infantry Division arrived at what was then a Rectory. The Military Police departed on 10th December 1942 with the Signal Company remaining until 25th December 1942. A trench dug by the United States Army and several outbuildings used by troops remain on the site.

Erganagh Rectory was also the birthplace of Lieutenant Commander Gerald Ralph Auchinleck Darling. He served throughout World War Two with the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm. His grandfather, also Gerald, was Rector there.

Erganagh House stands in an estate of around 8 acres of private grounds. The site today features a large house, gate lodge, gardener’s cottage, and other outbuildings.
