Rifleman Andrew Kerr of Armitage Street, Belfast died on 29th May 1940 while serving in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Dunkirk Evacuation.

Rifleman Andrew Kerr of Belfast returned home on leave in March 1940 due to a family illness. He returned to Belgium to serve in the British Expeditionary Force.

Rifleman Andrew Kerr (7011071) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the husband of Ellen Kerr of Armitage Street, Belfast.

Kerr received a call-up to the Reservists before the outbreak of the Second World War. In March 1940, he returned home to Belfast on leave as one of his children was seriously ill. Unfortunately, the young child died, and Kerr attended the funeral before returning to the front.

Rifleman Kerr died on 29th May 1940 aged 31 years old. At the time, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles was part of the British Expeditionary Force rear-guard on the way to Dunkirk.

Andrew Kerr’s grave is in Grave 11 of Boezinge Churchyard, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
