Stoker Arthur Robert Wing (LT/KX 107993) served in the Royal Naval Patrol Service during the Second World War. Born on 27th January 1911, he was the son of Charles William Wing and Annie Priscilla Wing, and husband of Irene Gertrude Wing of 4 Newmarket Street, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.
He drowned while serving on board HMS Southern Breeze on 20th May 1942 aged 31 years old. The ship was in Pollock Dock, Belfast at the time of the accident.
An inquest heard that Arthur was removing dirt from a large oil drum on the lower decks and emptying it out of the ship. Chief Engineer Ottmar Haig stated the fencing at the side of the ship may have broken. The crew reported Wing missing at 0430hrs on 20th May 1942.
Arthur Robert Wing’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section D, Grave 18 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast. His headstone bears the inscription:
