Lieutenant Brian Beven Russell was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of an RAF Wing Commander. His mother and stepfather lived in Donaghadee, Co. Down.

Lieutenant Brian Beven Russell (278612) served in 3rd Battalion Irish Guards during World War Two. Born on 10th April 1924, he was the eldest son of Mary "Mollie" Sara Welman (formerly Russell, née Knox-Peebles) of Westfield Park, Harold's Cross Road, Dublin, Ireland.

Brian was the son of Wing Commander George Henry Russell DFC and the stepson of Major William Herbert Eyre Welman. William and Mollie lived in Donaghadee, Co. Down. Mollie’s grave is in the Church of Ireland graveyard.

Brian Beven Russell died on 2nd April 1945 aged 20 years old. His grave is in Section 13, Row B, Grave 23 of Rhineberg War Cemetery, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. His headstone bears the inscription:
