16-year-old rifleman Charles Hamilton and fellow soldiers of 2nd Battalion The London Irish Rifles came under attack while engaging the enemy in Tunisia in 1943.

Rifleman Charles Hamilton (7019478) served in 2nd Battalion The London Irish Rifles, Royal Ulster Rifles during World War Two. He was the son of the late John Hamilton and Mary Hamilton of Racecourse Road, Shantallow, Co. Londonderry.

He died on 26th February 1943 aged 16 years old when German forces attacked the Djebel Rihane (Jabal ar Rayhan) area west of the road between Bou Arada (Bu Aradah) and Goubellet (Quballa).

Charles Hamilton’s grave is in Section 11, Row E, Grave 5 of Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia. His headstone bears the inscription:
