Sapper Charles McDowell (2199774) served in 1049 Port Operating Company, Royal Engineers during the Second World War. He was the son of Charles McDowell and Sarah Jane McDowell of Dickson's Close, Derry/Londonderry, and the husband of Sarah McDowell of Derry/Londonderry.
Charles McDowell died on 27th August 1944 aged 40 years old. His grave is in Section V, Row C, Grave 5 of Bayeux War Cemetery, Bayeux, Normandy, France. His headstone bears the inscription:
