Captain Daniel Martin Wilson's name is on the war memorial at Royal Courts of Justice, Chichester Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

Captain Daniel Martin Wilson (100950) served in the Royal Artillery during World War Two. He was the only son of the late Honourable Mr. Justice Wilson and Eleanor Wilson of 11 Deramore Drive, Malone Road, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

Wilson was the husband of Isabella Mary Frothingham Wilson of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In 1943, the couple lived at New Acre, Great Austins, Farnham, Surrey. A keen sportsman, he attained Blues standard for athletics at King’s College, Cambridge.

During the war, he served in 64th (London) Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery. On 2nd September 1939, he gained promotion to 2nd Lieutenant. The post in The Gazette refers to him as a former Cadet Company Sergeant Major in the Junior Division of the Officer Training Corps at Shrewsbury School.

Wilson died on service in North Africa on 6th April 1943 aged 37 years old. The Gazette on 22nd April 1943, gave news of a posthumous Military Cross awarded to Lieutenant (Temporary Captain) Wilson of Farnham, Surrey.

On 28th April 1943, a British paper carried news of Captain Wilson’s death. It suggests that family and friends may have known him as Tim. A death notice appeared in The Gazette on 13th January 1944 stating only that the then temporary Captain was killed in action.

Captain Daniel Martin Wilson has no known grave. His name is on panel 6 of the Medjez-el-Bab War Memorial, Tunisia. His name also features on the Royal Courts of Justice War Memorial, Chichester Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
