Lance Sergeant David McMichael, often listed as Daniel, served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War including as part of Operation Market Garden.

Lance Sergeant David McMichael (7009901) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the son of Alfred McMichael and Mary McMichael of 46 Louisa Street Belfast.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists his name as Daniel McMichael. However, the 1911 Irish Census confirms the youngest son of Alfred McMichael and Mary McMichael to be David. He is 3 years old in 1911 living at Louisa Street, Belfast.

David sustained injuries caused by shrapnel when crossing the Escaut Canal on 19th September 1945. He died during Operation Market Garden on 26th September 1945 aged 36 years old. On many records, his age is 34 years old.

David McMichael’s grave is in Section V, Row C, Grave 2 of Leopoldsburg War Cemetery, Belgium. His headstone bears the inscription:

Ever remembered by father, mother, sisters, and brothers.
