Rifleman David Thompson (7014034) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the son of William Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson of Belfast.

He died on 29th May 1940 aged 22 years old. This period of the Second World War saw some of 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles‘ fiercest fighting. They made up part of the rearguard of the British Expeditionary Force during the retreat to Dunkirk, France.

David Thompson’s grave is in Grave 12 of Boezinge Churchyard, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. His headstone bears the inscription:

At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
