Private Douglas Evans (3963487) served in 1/5th Battalion Welch Regiment during the Second World War. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Evans of Merthyr Vale, Wales, and the husband of Catherine V. Evans (née Gillan) of 40 Castle Street, Newry, Co. Down.
Douglas Evans died on 10th July 1944 aged 24 years old. His grave is in Section II, Row D, Grave 5 of St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, France. His headstone bears the inscription:
On his soul Sweet Jesus have mercy. Loved and remembered by sorrowing wife and son.
