Lance Corporal Edward Devine (7010080) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was born in Belfast.
He died on 30th May 1940 aged 34 years old. At the time, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles was part of the rear-guard of the British Expeditionary Force. They repelled attacks as the Allied troops retreated towards Dunkirk.
Edward Devine has no known grave. His name is on Column 128 of the Dunkirk Memorial, Dunkirk, France. The Lance Corporal was 2nd Battalion’s only confirmed death on this day of fighting.
