Lance Bombardier Edward Martin (7047144) served in 1st Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery during the Second World War. He was the youngest son of James Martin and Jane Martin of Clandeboye, Bangor, Co. Down.
Martin enlisted in the Royal Irish Fusiliers in 1940 before transferring to the Royal Maritime Artillery. He died on 20th June 1945 aged 28 years old. His cause of death was an illness contracted during his time serving on a tanker on the west coast of Africa.
Edward Martin’s grave is in Section 3K, Grave 26 of Bangor Cemetery, Bangor, Co. Down. His funeral took place with full military honours, the coffin carried on a gun carriage.
Lance Bombardier Martin had 2 older brothers also serving; Sergeant C. Martin in the Royal Ulster Rifles, and Bombardier S. Martin in the Royal Artillery.
