Rifleman Frederick McAlpine (7013683) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the son of James McAlpine of Belfast. Before the outbreak of war, he lived in Co. Armagh.
He died on 29th May 1940 aged 19 years old. 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles made up part of the rearguard of the British Expeditionary Force. In late May, they repelled enemy attacks as the British Expeditionary Force withdrew toward Dunkirk.
Frederick McAlpine’s grave is in Grave 10 of Boezinge Churchyard, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. His headstone bears the inscription:
He gave his young life that others might live in peace and content for all time.
