Rifleman George Anthony McCracken of Ravensdale Street, East Belfast died while serving with 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles in 1944.

Rifleman George Anthony McCracken (7013828) served in D Company, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was born in 1921 at 19 Ravensdale Street, Belfast.

In December 1941, he married Joanne Elizabeth Bailey in Dorchester, Dorset, England. Two of his brothers also served during the Second World War. George died on 21st June 1944 aged 23 years old. The cause of his death was shrapnel wounds received to his left side the previous day. At the time, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles was a part of the Normandy Campaign.
