Sub-Lieutenant George Nethercott Cunningham served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was the son of Henry Cunningham and Jeanie Cunningham of Belfast.
He died on 2nd July 1945 aged 21 years old. He served at HMS Merganser with the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm 717 Squadron. While based at Rattray, Aberdeenshire his Fairey Barracuda plunged into the Moray Firth on a training exercise.
George Nethercott Cunningham’s grave is in Section Q, Grave 156 of Carnmoney Cemetery, Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim.
