Able Seaman George Sleator of Armagh, Co. Armagh served on HMS Warwick when it came under attack off the coast of Cornwall from U-413.

Able Seaman George Sleator (D/JX 420406) served in the Royal Navy During World War Two. Born on 18th March 1925, he was the son of William J Sleator and Mabel Sleator of Armagh, Co. Armagh.

He died on 20th February 1944 aged 19 years old while on a submarine hunt on HMS Warwick (D25). U-Boat U-413 fired 2 torpedoes at the British Destroyer about 15 miles from Trevose Head, Cornwall. The stern of HMS Warwick broke off and the ship remained afloat for 4 minutes before the bulkhead collapsed. A total of 3 Officers and 64 Ratings died when HMS Warwick went down.

George Sleator has no known grave. His name is on Panel 87, Column 2 of the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon.
