Fusilier James Kennedy served in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and was on board MV Chama when it came under attack from a Kriegsmarine U-Boat.

Fusilier James Kennedy (6982911) served in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during World War Two. He was the son of John Kennedy and Susannah Kennedy of 34 James' Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim, and the husband of Martha Kennedy of 6 Bradford Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

James enlisted soon after the outbreak of the Second World War and died on 23rd March 1941 aged 22 years old on board MV Chama. The ships’ Master, 54 crew members, and 4 gunners died when the vessel came under attack west-southwest of Fastnet. While straggling behind Convoy OG-56, MV Chama took a direct hit from a torpedo from U-97 at 2326hrs.

James Kennedy has no known grave. His name is on Panel 11, Column 2 of the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, Surrey, England.
