Rifleman James Murray of Belfast died during the final days of the British Expeditionary Force's withdrawal to Dunkirk as 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles held the rear-guard.

Rifleman James Murray (7011091) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was born in Belfast and lived in Co. Armagh.

He died on 29th May 1940 aged 29 years old. This period of the Second World War saw some of 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles‘ fiercest fighting. They made up part of the rearguard of the British Expeditionary Force during the retreat to Dunkirk, France.

James Murray’s grave is in Grave 7 of Boezinge Churchyard, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
