James Patrick Joseph O'Hanlon of Bessbrook, Co. Armagh served in 3rd Battalion Irish Guards and fought during the Battle of Normandy that followed D-Day in the summer of 1944.

Guardsman James Patrick Joseph O'Hanlon (2723994) served in 3rd Battalion Irish Guards during World War Two. He was the son of Patrick O'Hanlon and Mary Anne O'Hanlon, and the husband of Kathleen O'Hanlon of Bessbrook, Co. Armagh.

He died on Monday 24th July 1944 aged 23 years old. Guardsman O’Hanlon was taking part in the hard-fought Battle of Normandy, which followed D-Day.

James Patrick Joseph O’Hanlon’s grave is in Section III, Row H, Grave 13 of Bayeux War Cemetery, Bayeux, Normandy, France. His headstone bears the inscription:
