Corporal James Reynolds (5570858) served in 4th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment during World War Two. He was the son of Maggie Stewart (formerly Reynolds) of Pound Cottages, Ballymena, Co. Antrim.
James’ brother Leading Aircraftman Walter Reynolds served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was one of many service personnel evacuated from Dunkirk.
James Reynolds died as a result of an accident on 5th April 1941 aged 22 years old. He had enlisted in July 1939 before the outbreak of the war. His grave is in Section D, Square 37, Grave 3 of Ballymena Cemetery, Ballymena, Co. Antrim. A funeral with full military honours took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Ballymena, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
Two little words not hard to write. We will remember all our life, my son.
A large crowd of locals lined the streets for his funeral. Reverend BC Boulger (Senior Chaplain to the Forces), Reverend FJ Mitchell, and Reverend WJ Whittaker conducted ceremonies at the family home and by the graveside before the sounding of ‘The Last Post’.
