Sergeant James Wylie DCM served in 1st Battalion Irish Guard and received a Distinguished Conduct Medal during the Norway campaign of 1940.

Sergeant James Wylie DCM (2719527) served in 1st Battalion Irish Guards during World War Two. He was the son of the late William Hugh Wylie and Elizabeth Wylie (née Moreland) of Belfast, Co. Antrim, and the husband of Elizabeth Wylie of Belfast, Co. Antrim.

In 1940, James received the Distinguished Conduct Medal for actions in Norway. He died on 24th February 1944 aged 37 years old.

James Wylie’s grave is in Section XXII, Row B, Grave 4 of the Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy. His headstone bears the inscription:

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
