Fusilier John James Hastings (6980741) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of John Hastings and Elizabeth Hastings of 94 Strabane Old Road, Waterside, Derry/Londonderry.

He died on 11th July 1943 aged 23 years old during the early stages of Operation Husky. The Allied invasion of Sicily had begun on the night of 9th-10th July 1943.

John James Hastings’ grave is in Section IV, Row D, Grave 3 of Syracuse War Cemetery, Sicily, Italy. His headstone bears the inscription:

Always remembered by his mother and sisters. He fought the good fight. RIP.
