John Maurice Mends Tickell had a lengthy career in the Royal Naval Reserve, serving in both World Wars before his death at the Savoy Hotel, Bangor, Co. Down.

Lieutenant John Maurice Mends Tickell served in the Royal Naval Reserve during the Second World War. Born on 14th September 1882 in Arcachon, Aquitaine, France, he was the son of Richard Griffith Tickell and Gertrude Julia Tickell (née Mends).

John served in the Royal Naval Reserve for many years, listed as a Midshipman in 1901, and seeing action in The Great War of 1914-1918. In 1915, he married Maria Price Winning in Sculcoates, Yorkshire, England.

Lieutenant Tickell died at the Savoy Hotel, Bangor, Co. Down on 28th August 1942 aged 59 years old. At the time, he served at H.M.S. Caroline, Belfast. His home address was 49 Crescent West, Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire, England.
