Lance Corporal John Wallace of Maguiresbridge, Co. Fermanagh died in Burma during 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers' advance to Yenangyaung.

Lance Corporal John Wallace (6979011) served in 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of Mary Ann Wallace of Maguiresbridge, Co. Fermanagh.

He died on 13th April 1942 aged 27 years old. His Battalion was flown to Rangoon, Burma in March 1942. From there, they set out to destroy oil wells in Yenangyaung. Fighting took place there on discovering Chinese forces had destroyed the wells on 17th April 1942. Japanese troops cut off the troops but several Officers and Fusiliers had already lost their lives in the advance to Yenangyaung.

John Wallace has no known grave. His name is on Face 11 of the Rangoon Memorial, Myanmar. His name also features on the Fivemiletown War Memorial, Fivemiletown, Co. Tyrone.
