Ballymena, Co. Antrim born Matthew Herbison Marshall served with the Royal Navy on board HMS Mourne when it sank in the English Channel in June 1944.

Steward Matthew Herbison Marshall (D/LX 31320) served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of H Marshall and Jeannie Marshall of Ballymena, Co. Antrim.

Matthew Herbison Marshall died on 15th June 1944 aged 19 years old. At the time, he served on HMS Mourne.

U-767 sank the Royal Navy Frigate in the English Channel during the Normandy campaign. Matthew Herbison Marshall has no known grave. His name is on Panel 91, Column 2 of the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon.
