Rifleman Norman Irwin of Belfast, Co. Antrim served in Italy with 2nd Battalion The London Irish Rifles towards the end of the Second World War.

Rifleman Norman Irwin (14417552) served in 2nd Battalion The London Irish Rifles, Royal Ulster Rifles during World War Two. He was the son of the late Robert Irwin and Daisy Evelyn Irwin of 5 Fernwood Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

Norman enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles in 1943 while a brother also served in the Pioneer Corps during the Second World War. Norman died on 22nd March 1945 aged 21 years old.

Norman Irwin’s grave is in Section II, Row A, Grave 18 of Faenza War Cemetery, Italy. His headstone bears the inscription:

He died that we might live. Rest in peace.
