Driver Norman Reid on Belfast, Co. Antrim came from a family where lots of relatives served in the forces during the years of the Second World War.

Driver Norman Reid (T/187821) served in the Royal Army Service Corps during World War Two. He was the son of Thomas Reid and Martha Reid of Belfast, Co. Antrim. He was the brother of Mrs. A Sinton of 20 Oakley Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim.

Reid died as a result of an accident on 22nd February 1945 aged 30 years old. He had 5 years’ service throughout the Second World War. He had 1 brother, 3 brothers-in-law, and a nephew also serving in the forces.

Norman Reid’s grave is in Section VII, Row H, Grave 6 of Assisi War Cemetery, Italy. His headstone bears the inscription:

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
