Gunner Patrick Crossey of Lisburn, Co. Antrim died at sea when British motor tanker Adellen went down in the Atlantic. He was a DEMS Gunner on the ship.

Gunner Patrick Crossey (1523024) served in 2/1 Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery during World War Two. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Crossey of 2 Canal Street Lisburn, Co. Antrim.

Patrick died on 22nd February 1942 aged 37 years old. He was a DEMS Gunner on board the motor tanker Adellen when it came under attack from U-155. The U-Boat attacked Convoy ONS-67 with 3 torpedoes at 0703hrs on 22nd February 1942 to the south of Cape Farewell. Sama and Adellen both went down with the latter losing 29 crew members and 7 gunners.

His parents received notification that he was missing presumed killed in June 1942. Crossey had enlisted in the British Army aged 18 years old and had served for 8 years in Poona, India.

Patrick Crossey has no known grave. His name is on Panel 71, Column 3 of the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Portsmouth, Hampshire. His name is on the Lisburn War Memorial, Lisburn, Co. Antrim.
