Rifleman Patrick James Mullins (7019652) served in 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the son of Mary Mullins of Lisburn, Co. Antrim.
He died on 8th June 1944 aged 20 years old. 1st Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles had landed at LZ-N near Ranville on D-Day, 6th June 1944. Mullins was part of heavy fighting with an Anti-Tank Platoon in the Ranville area during the first days of the Normandy Campaign. Records suggest he died as a result of injuries sustained during friendly fire as supporting Royal Artillery guns let loose a barrage on the enemy.
Patrick James Mullins’ grave us in Section IVA, Row D, Grave 2 of Ranville War Cemetery, Ranville, Normandy, France. His name is on the Lisburn War Memorial, Lisburn, Co. Antrim. His headstone in France bears the inscription:
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord; May he rest in peace. Amen.
