The family of Robert Reid received news that the Royal Inniskilling Fusilier was missing in October 1942.

Lance Corporal Robert Reid (6086637) served in 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of Alexander Reid and Margaret Reid of 35 Blythe Street, Belfast.

Robert enlisted in the Queen’s Own Regiment in 1935 before transferring to the Fusiliers. He had served in India for 4 years and was a keen boxer and footballer. He died on 18th April 1942 aged 26 years old. The Belfast Telegraph newspaper carried news that Reid was officially missing on 13th October 1942.

Robert Reid has no known grave. His name is on Panel 11 of the Rangoon Memorial, Myanmar and on the Reid family memorial at Section E1, Grave 25 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast.
