Lieutenant Samuel Geoffrey Crimes served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War Two. He lived at 9 Orthes Grove, Heaton Chapel, Stockport.
He died on 31st March 1945 aged 25 years old while serving on HMS Sarawak. The Lieutenant’s body was found at Whiteabbey, Co. Antrim on the shore of Belfast Lough.
Four other crew members of HMS Sarawak died on the same day and are buried in Northern Ireland. They are Lieutenant Tom Harrison Raven, Telegraphist Arthur Newton Davey, Signalman Lyn Edgar Landon Relf, and Telegraphist John Albert White. The 5 men died in a tragic drowning accident on Belfast Lough.
Samuel Geoffrey Crimes’ grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section BS, Grave 132 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
