Petty Officer Samuel Thomas Balmer was born in the Ballysillan area of Belfast in 1920. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.

Petty Officer Samuel Thomas Balmer (D/JX 147390) served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of Samuel T Balmer and Mary Balmer of Glenwood Street, Ballysillan, Belfast.

He died at his parents’ then home at 66 Glenbank Place, Belfast on 24th April 1945 aged 24 years old. Newspapers list his cause of death “as a result of war service”. Balmer was a member of the local British Legion (Naval Branch) and the Mountainview Darts Club.

Samuel Thomas Balmer’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section T1, Grave 413 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast. A funeral service took place at 1430hrs on 26th April 1945. His headstone bears the inscription:
