Stoker 1st Class Stanley Martin Edgar died between 10th October 1942 and 23rd October 1942 when H.M. Submarine Unique went missing on patrol between the United Kingdom and Gibraltar.

Stoker 1st Class Stanley Martin Edgar (D/SKX 315) served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. Born on 7th April 1923, he was the son of William James Edgar and May Stanley Edgar of Derry/Londonderry.

He died on 23rd October 1942 aged 19 years old while serving on H.M. Submarine Unique. The submarine was active in the Mediterranean during the Second World War. In October 1942, it disappeared without a trace off the west coast of Gibraltar. The last contact with the submarine was on 10th October 1942. By 22nd October 1942, its arrival in Gibraltar was overdue. Authorities declared all 34 members of the crew missing presumed killed.

Stanley Martin Edgar has no known grave. His name is on Panel 70, Column 1 of the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, England. His name is also on a memorial at St. Columb’s Cathedral, Derry/Londonderry.
