Rifleman Thomas Coulter served in 30th Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles at the time of his death in a Military Hospital in Bangor, Co. Down.

Rifleman Thomas Coulter (7019592) served in 30th Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. Born on 15th July 1890, he was the son of David Coulter and Adelaide Coulter of Newtownards, Co. Down.

Thomas had a younger brother David Coulter born in 1893 who died in infancy. He also had 2 younger sisters; Louisa Elizabeth Coulter born in 1897 and Sarah Johnston Coulter born in 1902. His father David Coulter passed away at 36 Quinton Street, Belfast on 22nd October 1909 when Thomas was 19 years old.

On 12th July 1924, Thomas Coulter married Catherine “Cassie” Gallagher in Castlereagh, Belfast, Co. Down. The couple lived at 64 Isoline Street, Belfast, Co. Down where they raised their family. Daughter Adelaide Coulter was born on 3rd February 1925. Eldest son Thomas Coulter arrived on 26th January 1927. A second daughter Kathleen Coulter was born on 23rd June 1929.

History repeated in 1933 when Thomas Coulter’s son David Coulter also died in infancy. The couple went on to have another daughter Sally Tynan Coulter born on 11th May 1935.

Rifleman Thomas Coulter died at No. 25 General Hospital, Bangor, Co. Down on 8th February 1942 aged 51 years old. His grave is in Section E1, Grave 60 of Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down. His headstone bears the inscription:

At rest. Sadly missed by his loving wife Cassie and family.
