Gunner Thomas Kilpatrick of Belfast had almost 20 years' service in the British Army at the time of his death in a Prisoner of War Camp operated by the Japanese in Thailand.

Gunner Thomas Kilpatrick (7009812) served in 7th Coast Regiment, Royal Artillery during the Second World War. Born on 1st May 1903, he was the eldest son of the late James Kilpatrick and Mary Ellen Kilpatrick (née Flynn) of 58 Everton Street, Belfast.

He died in a Japanese Prisoner of War Camp in Thailand on 6th July 1943 aged 38 years old. He had been captured during the Fall of Singapore. At his time of death, Thomas had 20 years’ service in the British Army. Two of his younger brothers also served during the Second World War.

Thomas Kilpatrick’s grave is in Section 4, Row J, Grave 3 of Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand. His headstone bears the inscription:
