Private Thomas William Percy Orwin of Tamworth, Staffordshire, England married Mary Louisa Quinn of Tandragee, Co. Armagh during the Second World War.

Private Thomas William Percy Orwin (5050450) served in 6th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment during the Second World War. Born on 18th October 1920, he was the son of the late Albert Orwin and Mary Ann Aucott (née Davis, formerly Orwin) of Tamworth, Staffordshire, England, and the husband of Mary Louisa Orwin (née Quinn) of Tandragee, Co. Armagh.

Known as Percy, the young Englishman had a twin brother James Albert Orwin, known as Albert. The boys attended Tamworth Senior Boys’ School, Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. After this, both young men found work at the local Alders Paper Mills before enlisting in the British Army. Percy died on 27th July 1944 aged 23 years old while serving in the Battle of Normandy with 6th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. Albert sustained severe wounds during the Normandy campaign serving in the same Battalion.

Thomas William Percy Orwin’s grave is in Section III, Row B, Grave 8 of Fontenay-le-Pesnel War Cemetery, Tessel, Normandy, France. His headstone bears the inscription:
