Battery Quartermaster Sergeant Walter Harper Gibson (1523903) served in 175 Battery, 66th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery during World War Two.
Born in 1900, he was the son of Robert Gibson and Margaret Gibson of 69 Sandhurst Drive, Belfast, Co. Antrim. He married Elizabeth Niblock of Belfast, Co. Antrim and the couple had a daughter Helen Elizabeth Gibson born on 15th August 1929.
Before the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, Walter served in the Ulster Special Constabulary. He was also involved with the Boys’ Brigade, in particular, Belfast’s 37th Company.
He died in a military hospital in his hometown of Belfast, Co. Antrim on 13th February 1941 aged 40 years old. At the time of his death, Walter, Elizabeth, and their daughter lived at 2 Castleton Gardens, Belfast, Co. Antrim.
Walter Harper Gibson’s grave is in Section AL, Grave 44 of Carnmoney Cemetery, Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim.
