Warrant Officer Class II William James Moffatt (3308683) was a Company Sergeant Major in 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) during the Second World War. He was the son of William James Moffatt and Elizabeth Moffatt of Woodlee Street, Belfast, and the husband of Georgina Moffatt (née Quee) of 7 Lackagh Street, Belfast.

He died on 10th July 1944 aged 36 years old. At his time of death, Moffatt had 16 years’ service in the British Army. He had been a piper in the Regimental Band of the Highland Light Infantry for 8 years.

William James Moffatt’s grave is in Section VIII, Row C, Grave 7 of St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, France. His headstone bears the inscription:

Let him sleep, calmly sleep, till God calls the roll oh high. Thy will be done.
