Lance Sergeant William John McKibbin married Sarah Jane Duff of Waterside, Derry/Londonderry and they had a young daughter Elizabeth McKibbin.

Lance Sergeant William John McKibbin (2720351) served in 3rd Battalion Irish Guards during the Second World War. Born on 19th September 1917, he was the son of Lantry McKibbin and Agnes McKibbin, and stepson of Martha McKibbin.

William married Sarah Jane Duff of Waterside, Derry/Londonderry. The couple had a young daughter Elizabeth McKibbin. Guardsman McKibbin died of wounds received during Operation Market Garden on 19th September 1944. He was 27 years old that day.

William John McKibbin’s grave is in Section VI, Row E, Grave 13 of Leopoldsburg War Cemetery, Limburg, Belgium. His headstone bears the inscription:

You are not forgotten daddy, nor ever will you be. Elizabeth.

William’s name is on his stepmother’s family plot in Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, Co. Down. It also appears on the Roll of Honour in Oldpark Presbyterian Church, Belfast.
