Lance Corporal William Keenan (7011506) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. Born in Eire, he was the son of Thomas Keenan, and the husband of Margaret Keenan of Co. Armagh.
He died on 5th July 1944 aged 30 years old while serving with B Company, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles. They landed at Sword Beach on D-Day, 6th June 1944 and fought throughout the Battle of Normandy. His cause of death was a fatal wound brought about by shrapnel near Cambes.
William Keenan’s grave is in Section II, Row G, Grave 6 of La Délivrande War Cemetery, Douvres, Normandy, France. His headstone bears the inscription:
Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.
