Fusilier William Neill of Coleraine, Co. Londonderry served in 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers as they took part in the early stages of Operation Husky.

Fusilier William Neill (6981760) served in 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of Samuel Neill and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Neill of Coleraine, Co. Londonderry, and the husband of Mary Neill of Dunlop Street, Coleraine, Co. Londonderry.

He died on 11th July 1943 aged 28 years old during the early stages of Operation Husky. The Allied invasion of Sicily had begun on the night of 9th-10th July 1943.

William Neill’s grave is in Section III, Row F, Grave 11 of Syracuse War Cemetery, Sicily, Italy. His headstone bears the inscription:
