Gunner John Madden (1058272) served in 1st Battery, 1st Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery during World War Two. Born on 10th September 1905, he was the son of John Madden and Martha Madden of Derrybeg, Co. Donegal.
John was the husband of Martha Madden of Derrymore, Co. Donegal. The couple later moved to Dungiven, Co. Londonderry and had a son named Edward Madden born on 19th October 1935.
John Madden died in Belfast, Co. Antrim while on home leave on 7th March 1942 aged 37 years old. His grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section AS, Grave 118 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
Blessed are they that die in the Lord. He will revive us. He will raise us up.
